WE ARE AN IMAGINARY STRING QUARTET
It’s a work in progress, for the moment it’s all in the clouds
We make strange music
Our concept
The imaginary roots string quartet will play original music composed by Larsen Genovese and other members of the band, inspired by different peculiarities of different folk music styles.

About us
As the quartet is still really imaginary (although the music is very real and already composed for the most part) there is not much to say here

Larsen Genovese
Founder / Composer
He likes and plays a lot of different styles of folk music. Studied classical violin in Consevatorio in Palermo, got a little bored with playing only classical music and started exploring other musical cultures. After playing with many bands in different musical styles, in 2024 he decided it’s time to give life to his own Folk-Frankenstein-Style compositions and went on a search for other like-minded brave musicians

Marcel Zimmermann
Violinist
Born on May 1, 1973, in Stans (NW), raised in Bern. Studied music at the Jazz School in Basel and completed a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy at the University of the Arts in Bern, with classical violin training under Barbara Doll. Attended masterclasses with Pierre Blanchard, Didier Lockwood, John Blake, and Tim Kliphuis. Has performed in concerts and recordings with Handsome Hank, Zimi’s Hot Swing Thing, Kapsamun, Melaccoustica, Tinkabelle, Bligg, Tinu Heiniger, Don Li, Symphonic Salsa, John Wolf Brennan, Pago Libre, among others.
Since 2007, Marcel Zimmermann livesin Bern, teaches at the Konsi Bern Music School, and works as a freelance musician.

Francesca Verga
Violist
Excellently graduated at the Conservatory of Vicenza (2008), the violist Francesca Verga continued her studies at the „Accademia Walter Stauffer“ of Cremona with Bruno Giuranna, and with Antonello Farulli at the „Scuola di Musica di Fiesole“ of Firenze where she becomes a member of the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, performing as viola leader (2010/11). After taking part in the activity of diverse Italian chamber music groups and orchestras, and obtaining her bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Padova (2014), she pursues her specialization in viola with Patrik Jüdt at the HKB, completing a Master Performance (2016) and Master Specialized in Research (2019), graduating with honor. With a musically versatile personality, a lively curiosity, and a love for knowledge, she studies also singing, piano, and composition and enjoys dealing with a large repertoire with both a historically informed and a more experimental attitude.
She started in the winter semester 2019 a doctorate program at the Graduate School of Humanities of Bern, with a project of authorial philology on the figure and composition process of the Giacinto Scelsi that promises large benefits for both fields of research and performance.
From December 2019 she starts to work as musical director of the company of musical and experimental theater Opera Lab of Berlin, in which she manages to combine her research approach on the performative techniques and on the compositional process with creative musical choices.

Junah Proost
Cellist
Yunah Proost is a Belgian cellist and interdisciplinary artist. Her interests spread across different areas of the art world and society. She has a great passion for theatre, especially dance and musical theatre. She was (co)creator of several productions, including an evening-piece around Azerbaijani folk music with dance and live visual art (Habil Savagi, 2019), theatre pieces for children at the Cologne Opera and in Belgium (Toybox, 2019 – Quartz, 2019). She regularly creates music for dance performances in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany and Switzerland (e.g. Other Tales From the Underground, 2016 – Venn, 2017 – Bullshit no Bullshit, 2018 – What they Whisper 2021). With her sister Mitya Proost (painter, visual artist), she is always looking for new fusions of sound and visual worlds. Yunah has had classical training at the conservatories of Antwerp, London, Maastricht, Zurich and Bern. She is now based in Bern where she also teaches Cello at the Konsibern. She plays in different chamber music groups among which the Lavyn Ensemble, founded together with violinist Melanie Gruwez. She plays duo with pianists Lester van Look and Thomas Eeckhout. With her former Ignis Quartet (BE) and Drème Quartet she won several prizes. Yunah has a big passion for folk and world music, which led her to study the Persian string instrument kamanche and to create projects where Persian traditional music meets with Western instruments and styles.
